Summer Learning Journey Activity #9: The WWF ( World Wildlife Found)

For this activity I had to watch two videos and write full sentences and tell you.

1: The name of the animal the WWF is working to save.

2: What the WWF is doing to help the animal.

3:What, if any, success they have had protecting the animal.

There were two videos I had to watch and one was about tigers and the other was about freshwater seals. In the freshwater seals video there was a man explaining how these seals are endanger, they are about 360 individuals left but this group of people try and prevent that.  They make snow banks for seals to give birth in, if a seal gives birth out in the open then half of the litter will die because of the cold, human disturbance and predators.   The other video about tigers is basically saying that it doesn't matter where in the world you are, you can still help endangered tigers.

  1. Hi Mary

The work that the WWF are doing around the world to help endangered animals is fantastic. They help in so many ways.
It is quite amazing that something as simple as building up the snow banks can have such a huge impact on the survival of the seal pups. I assume that the burrow that they make for their pup is just like an igloo on the inside. Nice and warm and protected for them.
Obviously this is doing the job as the survival rate for the pups has increased.
I was in Kaikoura a couple of weeks ago and we stopped the car on the coast to have a look at all the seals. There were so many. From really little pups to great big massive ones. It would be great if the population of the freshwater seals could one day be as big as the salt water cousin that lives here.

I hope that you are having a great holiday so far and that you have some fun things planned.

    Keep up the great work!

    Until next time!

    Allie :)
