Vocabulary

In class we have been reading the same piece of writing together and we had to highlight words we didn't know what it meant. Today we searched up what it was and we had to come up with a sentence with that word.

Hemmed:
Meaning: turn under and sew the edge of (a piece of cloth).
Sentence:  Martha hemmed the piece of clothing to make a beautiful dress.

Brittle:
Meaning: hard but liable to break easily.
Sentence:  Some people can be brittle.

Bleak:
Meaning: Meaning: (of an area of land) lacking vegetation and exposed to the elements.
Everything surrounding me was bleak.

Headland:
Meaning: a narrow piece of land that projects from a coastline into the sea.
Sentence: They were heading south to  the headland.

Derelict:
Meaning: In a very poor condition as a result of disuse and neglect.
Sentence: Orphans are usually left in a derelict as they have either been abandoned or their parents have died.
