SLJ Week 1 Day 1 Activity 1 - Explorers, Setting Sail

For this activity, make a list of ten food items that you could take with you. Please think carefully about what you will take as you won’t have access to a refrigerator or freezer while at sea. Please explain why you would select each item.
On your blog, post your list of 10 food items you would take on an ocean voyage and the reasons why you chose these items.
If I were to voyage the ocean with Naiona I would have a spectacular time, but would also get home sick, and sea sick..
The list of food items I have selected are:
1: Oatmeal - Oatmeal can last 18 - 24 months at room temperature and there are many benefits to eating oatmeal such as being incredibly nutritious.

3: Tuna - Once again you can eat this food item raw and it's convenient since you don't need to go the extra mile just to eat it.  You can just pop the can open and enjoy it, it's that easy.
4: Muesli - Muesli can last up to 3 months if stored in a cool and dry place, which will be found on aboard.  It can also be a great snack, or breakfast.
5: Pre Cooked Rice - Bringing along pre cooked rice is quite helpful since we may not have a rice cooker with us.  Pre cooked rice is good with any dish, which is a bonus.
6: Brown Bread - Since it lasts for a decent 5 - 7 days and it's full of wheat and provides a good source of fiber, and is much healthier than white bread itself.

8: Dehydrated Fruit - Since they can last a good amount of time and are a great snack.
9: Canned Baked Beans - You can eat it without having to warm it up, and they are high in protein and can last 3 - 5 years if unopened.
10: Anzac biscuits - Because they last 2 weeks if kept in an airtight container at room temperature.  That's perfect since Anzac biscuits last a decent amount of time and they're scrumptious to munch on.

  1. Hi Mary

Welcome to the Summer Learning Journey for this year. My name is Allie and I am part of the SLJ team that will be reading your blog over the summer. It is great that you have started the programme with an awesome list of items that you would take with you on your voyage.
Not only have you list all the items bu you have given a great reason why you have chosen each one too.
Then you have also had a go at attributing the images that you have used. Mary you are a star! What a fantastic start!

You have put a lot of thought into what you would take which is great. I love that you have Anzac biscuits on there. As we all know they lasted a long time for the soldiers during the war.

The only thing I would add would be some fresh water. You would need this to drink and to cook anything with.

Fantastic job Mary, really looking forward to what else you post. You have set the bar very high! Good for you!

    Keep it up

    Until next time

    Allie :)
