Sailing Recap

On Monday the 11th of November the year 6, 7 & 8's of Te - Kinga participated in the 'Have A Go Sailing' program.  I myself have been sailing before because of this program from previous years so I had some prior knowledge stored in my pocket.  When we arrived at the Yacht Club we were kindly greeted by Simon, the organizer of the whole program.  He taught us how to set up a yacht and how to sail.  I knew this stuff, so it was kind of a revision.  After we suited up we jumped into the water.  One person had to be an "Anchor" and the other had to put the trailer back.  My sailing buddy was Bridget, here's her blog http://lakebrunnerbridgetr.blogspot.com/( shameless plug for her ).  Bridget and I were a bit anxious at times when our boat started tipping.  Most of the time we were screaming at each other because the boat was either going to capsize ( well we thought ) or we were just having too much fun in general.  Whilst gliding on the water we heard two squeaky squeals, we looked around and discovered that those squeals were coming out of the mouths of Jakob & Kyle.  My favourite parts of the whole experience was walking on the underwater jetty and jumping off, screaming at Bridget, chucking water at other people with the bailer and sailing in general.  If you have the opportunity to go sailing I suggest you go for it because it's a great experience to get involved in if you haven't gone sailing before.

Miranda Jane Caird Art Reflection

Lake Brunner School are learning how to incorporate Miranda Jane Caird's artwork style into theirs by creating a masterpiece.  We all got to video call Miranda as a whole school.  She gave us interesting art tips and answers to the questions we asked.  Weeks later each class was assigned to do a Miranda Jane Caird related artwork.  In order to make it look slightly like her style we had to add black lines.  The steps to make this type of art is quite simple.  1st step was to gently draw everything with pencil.  2nd step was to outline the parts you want to be black in chalk.  3rd step is to pastel everything up, but in my case I paste-led the mountains and water, I left the sky and watercoloured it.  4th step is to dye.  To dye we had to get ink and brush it against, lightly dab it and let it dry.  We placed all the finished artwork on the wall for display.

Snow Camp Report

On Monday 19th of August Te-Kinga & Kotuku drove to Arthurs Pass.  As we reached our destination we unloaded all our luggage and parked it inside the Aurthurs Pass "lodge".  Gemma ( The Host ) gave us a safety lecture.  We then split into two groups that were divided between Te-Kinga & Kotuku.  Te-Kinga went to Temple Basin and Kotuku went to do a mini bird orienteering thing.  We learnt  more about the South Island, we went on a mini track loop which involved people throwing snow at one another.  Once we were all done with our activities, which took about 2 hours.  We then had lunch.  Lunch was what we had packed in our bags.  Those who wanted to could swap activities.  Kotuku didn't want to, some wanted to o the squawk squad.  Some Te-Kinga didn't particapate with the squawk squad, whereas there were only a little group remaining.  The two groups split into two.  I was in a small group consisting Cameron, Toby, Mackenzie, Abhi, Paul (Toby's Dad) & Daniel (Grace's Step-dad).   For dinner we had pizzas made by the parent helpers.  Dessert was it was self - sauced pudding.

Day 2 Highlights: We arrived at Cheeseman.  As we were waiting for the parents putting their chains on, some kids went outside to have a mini snow fight.  When we arrived at the Cheeseman day room, we hanged out there a bit.  We technically were on MT Cockayne, MT Cheesman was beside us.  Some of us hung out in the day room and just chilled there.  After fun and games Sam (Cheeseman Host) called us inside.

Day 3 Highlights:  Skiing and failing was really fun.  Saying goodbye to Cheeseman was sad-ish, but the views on the way back were gorgeous.  Car ride was energetic & fun.

P.M.I
Positives: Snow fights, skiing, hanging out with friends, dessert.
Minuses: When I went up the T-Bar to atempt skiing down the slopes I couldn't stop myself or slow myself down, so my only option was to fall and land having my skis come off.
Interesting:  When I fell down pretty hard and my skis came off it didn't hurt one bit.

Job Interview: Jarred Klempel

Recently we have been interviewing a good amount of people and asked them about their job history etc.  We had the same questions laid out for all our guests, we added in some different questions too. With every person we interviewed there was a different answer.  Today we interviewed Jarred Klempel ( Zak & Cameron's Dad ) he gave us full answers to our questions.  He intrigued me because he went into depth with his job history.  He mentioned all of his jobs and the two that stood out the most were the air force job and when he worked on the Bumble & Friends Show where he had to blink the eye of a puppet fish.

Self - Directed Time Reflection

Self - Directed Time Reflection

For my SDL I've been mainly reading or finishing off my work.  I usually take time on my projects because I want it to be the best it can be.  I don't want my work to be a plain or boring, so I make my work exiting and high standard by putting detail and interesting things to jazz things up a little.  I like reading in my own time because it's like emerging into a different world full of fantasy.  I've also been practising some ukulele with my group, we've been learning different songs each of us like.  We formed our ukulele group last year and preformed some songs to people.  We usually practice songs and practice being in time with each other.

Weekly Reflection

I prefer a not so structured classroom because self directed learning is a good way to learn how to be independent.   I think self directed learning has made me even more independent, I was already independent but self directed learning showed me that being independent can teach you a lot of things.  This week I have achieved two water colour artworks, which I really like the look of.  This week although I haven't really thought of my personal inquiry I will most definitely take some action on it next week.

Weekly Reflection

This week has been a really productive week for me because I'm on top of everything.  Next week I am going to do more watercolour paintings, I'm going to do more on my personal inquiry.  My personal inquiry is way out of my comfort zone, I've never done anything like it before and I'm exited to get started.

Weekly Reflection

SDL means self directed learning,  SDL is a good opportunity to getting your stuff that you need to get done, done.  I like doing SDL because it's much easier than someone telling you exactly what you need to do in a session.  I think that I'm pretty good at managing my SDL time.  I'm exited about my personal inquiry that I'm doing with Tess because I've never done anything like what we are doing yet.  I will for sure do my personal inquiry in some of my SDL time.

Weekly Reflection

I think that things are working for me because I'm getting most of my things done.  I still haven't decided what I'm going to do for my personal inquiry, but I still have ideas that I could possibly do.  I am still working on my watercolour portfolio because I don't even know what I'm going to paint.  I think that I have improved in my basketball skills because we have been working on them.  I love doing scratch because it's creative and you get to practice you coding skills, I hope to do more games in the future.

Weekly reflection

A lot of things have changed at LBS like Ruma J turned to Ruma C.  LBS is going to have a new principal which is exiting and going to be different.  I think that I haven't changed at all,  I am exited to learn more about our new principal.  I honestly think that it is good to have a change because it's good to have a change.

Weekly reflection

Am I on task?

I think that I am on task and getting what I need to get done, done.  I am not on any overdue tasks on trello which is good, I want to go further into my personal inquiry and see what I actually want to do.  Everyday is a pretty good day for me because I really like to learn more things because it is informational and good for my future.  I think I did an amazing job on my this day in history creations, I want to finish my little red riding hood next week and also my scratch. Next week I want to get as much things done, but the main thing I am going to focus on is my personal inquiry.

Week 1 reflection

I think that I started off my term okay because I have thought of my personal inquiry but haven't actually taken action yet.  The first day back was exiting because I couldn't wait to see my friends, I couldn't wait to go back to school because my holidays was a bit boring and I was really exited for the fairy tales because I haven't heard all of the original ones.  I think that I did well on my maths because I completed it in the end which is a priority, I think I could have done better on my kiwi kids news article because it wasn't detailed.

My holidays

My holidays

In the first week of the holidays on Tuesday I went to Gloriavale to see their concert.  It was amazing because there was so much going on. I was not very vogie of myself because I was meant to bake a cake to bring to the library for a cooking contest and I missed out on it.  I went on the farm heaps to help my dad, I saw my niece and nephew twice. I didn’t go anywhere else except for town. I just basically stayed with my family and spent time with them.

My holiday Journal

The first week of my holiday I was sick, my brother Bryce got sick then passed his sickness to my sister ( Brianna) then she passed it to my other brother ( Bruce) then finally he passed it to me and my parents.   I soon got better on Saturday, talking about Saturday I watched heaps of movies on Saturday with my family.
I also cleaned my room and redecorated it, because I was getting bored of the look of my room.
It took about 2 days and a half, I really like the end product of my room.  On the second day I attempted to clean my room, some of our friends came over Jane and Graham ( they're adults)
We went to the farm to pick up some fencing gear such as posts, wire and that's basically it.
My biggest highlight is going across the river with my dad and sister, at first I thought it was going to be scary, but no that was not the scary part.  The scary part was dad moving the rocks and logs, because whenever he moved something the tractor would either lean on one side a little or go on top of the rock.  I was terrified because I hated the feeling when the tractor leaned.  The side I was sitting on didn't have a door because it got smashed.  This is why whenever I was scared I jumped out of the tractor,  it was actually really fun.
My holiday wasn't filled with much exiting things because most of the time I was relaxing and spending time with my family.
I also slept in heaps ( which I love about holidays)

Athletics

On Monday 6th of November my class went to Athletics.  There were six events, which were: Long jump, high jump, Discus, shot put, Sprints and the 400 meter run.

My favourite two would have to be discus and sprints, because I think I tried my hardest in those two and for me they were the ones that were the funnest.

The cons of my day at Athletics is that I didn't jump that high in High Jump because for some reason I was kind of scared of the bar.

Overall I think that Athletics went well because everyone had fun and everyone cheered for each other.

It's cruel to keep animals in zoos, speech

During term three we have been focusing on persuasive writing.  We all had to choose a topic to write on for our upcoming speech.  For my speech I decided to choose a topic on zoos, which was It's cruel to keep animals in zoos.  When I first started to work on my speech I had trouble coming up with some ideas,  but I eventually got some help from the teacher which really helped a lot and I also checked some websites about cruel zoo facts and put it into my own words.  I got a lot of good feedback from my classmates and they said that I used a lot of repetition in my speech which made the message go through to people, well done and I definitely made an impact on the audience, but there's always room for improvement.  Next time I should have a clearer voice so that people can hear me better and use some more complex words to make my speech more interesting.  Overall I'm happy with my results and I hope that I'll do more better speeches in the future.
